Building a Business Content Library: A Look Behind the Scenes

One of the most popular services I provide for businesses is creating a core library of photo and video assets. Think of it as a marketing starter pack for your company, or a content refresh when your existing photos and videos no longer reflect where your business is today.

Because I work as both a photographer and videographer, clients can accomplish both goals within a single project. This streamlines the process, creates a more cohesive visual identity, and minimizes disruptions to the workday.

Every company is different, and no two businesses have exactly the same content needs. That said, the most common requests typically include:

  • An introductory brand video

  • Candid photography throughout the office

  • Team portraits and headshots

  • Staff group photos

  • Service and workplace photography

Recently, I had the opportunity to work with the team at ClearWorks Audiology, and they provided a great example of how these projects come together. One thing that always helps is when the team genuinely enjoys working together. That energy naturally comes across in the final images and video.

The Interview Setup

The interview portion is often the most production intensive part of the video process. While the final shot may appear simple and natural, there is usually quite a bit happening just outside the frame.

A typical interview setup includes carefully positioned lighting, cameras, audio equipment, and support gear designed to enhance the natural environment without drawing attention to itself.

For this project, the key light was placed on the same side as the window to maintain a natural look and direction of light. A fill light softened shadows on the opposite side of the face, while a subtle backlight helped separate the subject from the background.

These supporting lights are intentionally understated. Most viewers would never notice them, but they would immediately notice if they were removed. The goal is not to create a dramatic effect but to subtly elevate the image while keeping it authentic.

Bringing the Story to Life

Once the interview is complete, the next step is capturing visuals that support the story being told.

This includes footage and photography of the office environment, staff interactions, patient experiences, and the specialized services that make the business unique. These assets become valuable marketing tools that can be used across websites, social media, digital advertising, presentations, and future campaigns.

For ClearWorks Audiology, this included documenting their office environment, showcasing specialized equipment, photographing team members, and capturing candid moments with patients.

Team Photography

Group photos remain one of the most requested deliverables for businesses. They help put faces to a brand and communicate the personality behind the company.

One of my favorite images from this project was not a formally posed photo at all. While preparing for the next setup, the team naturally gathered together and began chatting. The relaxed, authentic dynamic created a stronger image than many posed photographs could. Sometimes those unscripted moments tell the best story.

Portraits and Headshots

Professional portraits help establish trust and familiarity with potential clients. Whether used on a website, LinkedIn profile, marketing materials, or internal communications, updated portraits are often one of the highest value assets a business can invest in.

In addition to traditional headshots, I also like to capture environmental portraits and candid interactions whenever possible. These images feel more personal and often provide greater flexibility for future marketing needs.

Why Invest in Core Content Assets?

A strong library of professional photos and video gives businesses the flexibility to market themselves consistently across multiple platforms. Instead of scrambling for content every time a new opportunity arises, you already have a collection of high quality assets ready to go.

Whether you're launching a new business, updating your website, refreshing your social media presence, or preparing for future marketing campaigns, investing in core content can save time and strengthen your brand for years to come.

Thanks for taking a look behind the scenes at my process. I always enjoy helping businesses tell their stories through authentic photography and video production. If you’d like to watch the full video from this project, head over to my video page.
